As US–China rivalry intensifies, the US has repeatedly shown signs of its declining hegemony, including in the war on Iran. China, meanwhile, is rapidly catching up with the US in advanced technologies and other fields, and presents itself as a leader of an alternative international order. A significant section of the left sees this as a progressive development. But is that really the case? We will discuss on the prospects for US–China rivalry, and how we should understand China as one side of that rivalry by examining China’s internal dynamics and contradictions, as well as the prospects for resistance from below.
