이슬람이 다른 종교에 비해 더 여성 차별적이라는 생각이 널리 퍼져 있습니다. 무슬림 여성의 히잡(머리 스카프) 착용이 여성 억압과 복종의 상징처럼 여겨지기도 하죠. 많은 자유주의자들과 좌파들도 이런 생각을 받아들입니다.

과연 그럴까요? 무슬림 이주민이 증가하고 있는 한국에서도 이런 편견에 어떻게 답하고 맞서 싸울지는 점점 중요한 문제가 되고 있습니다. 무슬림 가정에서 자랐고 지금은 인종차별 반대 운동가이자 혁명적 사회주의자인 탈라트 아흐메드가 풍부한 식견과 경험으로 이에 답할 것입니다.

There’s an widespread idea that Islam is inherently more predisposed to discriminate women compared to other religions. The wearing of the hijab (headscarf) by Muslim women is also seen as a symbol of oppression. Many liberals and leftists accept this as well.

Is that really the case? How to respond and fight against such prejudice is becoming an increasingly important issue in South Korea, where the number of Muslim immigrants is growing. Talat Ahmed, who grew up in a Muslim family and is an anti-racism activist and revolutionary socialist, will answer this with her rich insight and experience.
