우리는 러시아의 저명한 반자본주의 석학이자 반전 활동가인 보리스 카갈리츠키를 ‘테러를 정당화한다’는 죄목으로 구금한 것에 항의한다.

카갈리츠키는 러시아 북부의 외딴 도시 식팁카르에서 재판을 받게 될 텐데, 이는 효과적인 정치적 항의 행동을 차단하려는 조처다. 소련 말기에 카갈리츠키는 좌파적 반체제 인사였고 1982년에 ‘반(反)소비에트 활동’을 했다는 이유로 체포됐다. 소련 붕괴 이후 카갈리츠키는 풍부한 저작을 써 내며 러시아의 가장 저명한 비판적 마르크스주의자로 명성을 얻었다. 카갈리츠키는 러시아의 여러 교육 기관에서 강의했고, 러시아의 ‘세계화 연구 및 사회운동 연구소’(IGSO) 소장을 지냈으며, 초국적연구소(TNI)의 연구원이다. 카갈리츠키가 러시아의 우크라이나 침공에 반대했기 때문에 체포됐다는 점은 의심의 여지가 없다. 이는 전쟁에 반대하는 좌파를 억누르려는 더 큰 움직임의 일부다. 지난 6월 러시아 정부는 카갈리츠키를 ‘외국 첩자’로 규정했다. 터무니없는 소리다. 카갈리츠키는 서방이 아프가니스탄과 이라크에서 벌인 제국주의적 모험을 올곧게 비판해 왔고, 신자유주의적 세계화에 반대하는 운동의 저명 인사다. 우리는 러시아 연방정부 당국에 촉구한다. 러시아 시민들의 표현의 자유와 시위의 권리를 존중하고 보리스 카갈리츠키와 그 밖에 전쟁에 반대하다가 잡혀간 사람들을 무조건 즉각 석방하라.
